There are two chief means of transportation of molecules across the cell membrane which are listed as under:
Passive transport
Active transport
Passive Transport:
The uptake of water and minerals due to concentration gradient without using the energy of ATP is called passive transport. Passive transport always takes place from high to low quantities of substances.
Examples:
Osmosis
Diffusion
Active Transport:
Movement of substances from low quantity is high quantity i.e. against the concentration gradient which requires energy of ATP is called active transport.
