Allama Iqbal’s Allahabad Address in 1930 laid the groundwork for the creation of Pakistan. In his address, he envisioned:
i. Separate Muslim State:
Iqbal passionately advocated for a separate Muslim state to protect the distinct identity and rights of Muslims in the Indian subcontinent.
ii. Distinct Muslim Nation:
He emphasized that Muslims constituted a unique nation with its own cultural, social, and political values.
iii. Autonomy for Muslim Provinces:
Iqbal proposed the creation of autonomous Muslim provinces within the Indian federation, ensuring self-governance for Muslims.
iv. Political Unity:
Urging Muslim unity, Iqbal called for a collective effort to overcome internal differences and work towards shared political goals.
“I would like to see the Punjab, North-West Frontier Province, Sind, and Baluchistan amalgamated into a single state. Self-government within the British Empire, or without the British Empire, the formation of a consolidated Northwest Indian Muslim state appears to be the final destiny of the Muslims, at least of Northwest India.”
These lines succinctly capture Iqbal’s vision of a consolidated Muslim state in Northwest India, laying the foundation for the creation of Pakistan.
